+Call to Worship

Leader: Now I know that the LORD will help his anointed;

People: he will answer him from his holy heaven with mighty victories by his right hand.

Leader: Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,

ALL: but our pride is in the name of the LORD our God.

+Invocation

Almighty God, we stand before you recognizing our own sin and rebellion; we confess our foolish vanity, our selfish spirits, and our thoughtless actions.  We have fallen so short of your glory, O Lord, yet in your steadfast love you have offered us restoration; in your gracious love, you have provided a means whereby we might experience new life through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Thank you for the gifts you give, and grant us strength to honor your grace with lives of faith and obedience. As you have used so many others who seemed unlikely tools—the trickster Jacob, the shepherd-king David, the fisherman Peter—so we pray that you might use us as instruments of your will.  Use us for your honor, as we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
