+Call to Worship                                                                    David Smith

Leader: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?

People: O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer; and by night, but find no rest.

Leader: Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

People: In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them.

Leader: To you they cried, and were saved; in you they trusted, and were not put to shame.

People: But I am a worm, and not human; scorned by others, and despised by the people.

Leader: All who see me mock at me; they make mouths at me, they shake their heads; “Commit your cause to the LORD; let him deliver—let him rescue the one in whom he delights!”

People: Yet it was you who took me from the womb; you kept me safe on my mother’s breast.

Leader: On you I was cast from my birth, and since my mother bore me you have been my God.

ALL: Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

Almighty God, ruler of heaven and earth, we worship your majesty; we bless your steadfast mercy.  You are above all; in you alone glory and honor reside.  We praise your name, for your love is never-ending, your compassion is beyond understanding.  When we were yet sinners, you gave your only Son to die on a bitter cross, that we might have life.  How can we fathom love so divine?  Let your Spirit fill our hearts, O Lord, that we might know your presence with renewed power. Help us to yield ourselves more fully to your will, that we might experience your strength in our own lives.  Protect us from evil, O Lord, that we might maintain absolute fidelity to your truth and your way.  Enable us to so order our lives that we place no priority higher than service to your kingdom.  We ask all these things in the name of our loving Savior, amen.
