+Call to Worship                                                                Bryan Morgan

Leader: To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, in you I trust;

People: do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

Leader: Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

People: Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.

Leader: Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;

People: for you I wait all day long.

Leader: Be mindful of your mercy, O LORD, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

People: Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O LORD!

Leader: Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

People: He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

Leader: All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness,

ALL: for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

O Lord, we enter this special season in a spirit of preparation and anticipation.  We know it is a time of preparation—preparing our lives as we recognize the sin that is in us; preparing our hearts to receive the gift of life made possible by Christ on the cross; preparing our church to proclaim your kingdom with power and boldness.  And even as we prepare, we live in anticipation—anticipation of Good Friday, with its awesome darkness; anticipation of Easter; with its explosion of light; and anticipation of Christ’s return, when the kingdom that has already begun will be fulfilled—when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  We live in anticipation of that day; prepare us to be faithful witnesses of the cross, of the empty tomb, and of the kingdom yet to come.  Amen.
