PREPARING FOR WORSHIP
+Call to Worship
Leader: The LORD is my strength and my might;
People: he has become my salvation.
Leader: There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: "The right hand of the LORD does valiantly; the right hand of the LORD is exalted...." I shall not die, but I shall live,
People: and recount the deeds of the LORD.
Leader: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them
People: and give thanks to the LORD.
Leader: This is the gate of the LORD;
People: the righteous shall enter through it.
We remember many things on this special morning, O Lord: the thrill of a new bonnet or a new pair of shoes; the colored eggs hidden in the grass; the scent of lilies in the air; the great music; the crowds of people in church, on the streets, in the restaurants; the feeling of newness in the world; the sense of something transcendent, reaching beyond this world and uniting it with the life beyond. We praise you for the transcendence, for the awareness of divine presence, for the knowledge that when all earth's stories are told, of war and famine and disease and suffering, there is something else, another story of a man who truly lived and loved and gave himself, who died on a cross and was raised to new life out of the very grave itself! How different our lives are because of this story, Lord! How different the world is because of it! We hold before you today the entire community of faith in every part of the world—brothers and sisters in Christ in Zimbabwe and Brazil, in Denmark and Russia, in Korea and Nicaragua, and wherever hands are lifted to you in prayer. Let us all remember the victory of Christ and live in the coming triumph of your Kingdom. Even where there are fighting and sickness and starvation, where people die and there is much sadness, grant that there may also be a mood of hope and expectancy, an inner certainty that you will not forsake those to whom you have revealed and promised so much in your Son Jesus. We know that night is often darkest before the dawn, and therefore we are bold to pray even now, when there are so much unrest and injustice in the world, that your redemption may quickly come; that little children may grow up in a world without drugs; that mothers and fathers may always love one another; that elderly people may walk on the streets without fear; that poor people will be fed from the tables of the rich, and homeless people sheltered in the houses of the wealthy; and that all people will resort daily to the altars and sanctuaries of the Most High, to give you thanks and to receive your blessing and to live peaceably and joyfully with all their neighbors. To that end, receive and bless our worship here this day, and let your name be praised in glory by all the saints and angels, both here and in eternity, forever and ever. Amen.
